Playing Sturgis in White House Plumbers is Kim Coates, best known for his roles in titles like Bad Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Goon and Godless. Dorothy Hunt is the wife of Howard Hunt, but she is no typical housewife. There are reports that she was an asset for the CIA in her own right and would have a hand to play in the Watergate scandal. Ultimately, the writers and director relied on their protagonists. When they looked in the mirror, they saw the ultimate patriots, and they were willing to do whatever it took to prove themselves.

Right away, you know this new White House Plumbers series is in great hands. Specifically, it's in the hands of writers and creators Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, both of whom worked on HBO's Veep and The Larry Sanders Show. The director of multiple episodes is David Mandel, who directed episodes of Veep and Curb Your Enthusiasm. And the many executive producers include Frank Rich, who's also an executive producer on Succession. So this group knows how to tell a story in unexpected ways, and to find the humor even in the more serious situations. Many of the infamous names behind the Watergate scandal are being portrayed by famous ones as part of the White House Plumbers cast.

The five-part limited series The White House Plumbers will focus on the true story of how Richard Nixon’s own Watergate masterminds. The Watergate scandal, also known as the Pentagon Papers leak, was last revisited by Starz's "Gaslit" — starring Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, and Shea Whigham — in 2022. However, that political thriller instead focused on how Martha Mitchell, the wife of United States attorney general and presidential campaign chairman John Mitchell, got roped into the chaos and cover-up of the crime.

Parts of White House Plumbers are laugh-out-loud outrageous – but other parts do make you feel for some of these people, and, of course, compare that scandal to more contemporary ones. All the President's Men is one of my favorite movies of all time — and White House Plumbers is good enough to be shown as a very long, all-Watergate double feature. Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates is Frank Sturgis, another one of the five burglars involved in Watergate. In the '50s, Sturgis moved to Cuba and worked for Fidel Castro and as a CIA informant, and opened a training camp where he taught Che Guevarra guerilla warfare, then eventually defected and joined the anti-Castro opposition. He was also involved in a number of conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, including some he perpetuated himself. For his role in Watergate, he spent 14 months in prison.

And who better to play HBO’s Mario and Luigi than Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux? Okay, fine, The White House Plumbers isn’t actually a show about fixing pipes. As the first trailer for the five-part miniseries shows, Harrelson and Theroux are instead starring as E. Gordon Liddy, the Watergate masterminds who accidentally toppled the presidency they were trying to protect.
Among his other roles are the latest Star Wars trilogy, American Made, Brooklyn, Ex Machina and About Time. Most viewers will know Theroux from his roles in Mulholland Drive, Zoolander, The Leftovers and The Mosquito Coast. He is also a writer (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2, Rock of Ages) and an Emmy-winning producer for the specials Live in Front of a Studio Audience. Like Hunt, G. Gordon Liddy was a former federal agent, previously working for the FBI before he started working for the Plumbers.
